Spontaneous periodic change in electroencephalogram.
During the course of study on alteration in EEG pattern produced by changing ventilation, we noticed spontaneous EEG fluctuation in which two types of activities alternated at regular intervals in about half the series of experiments. Cortical and subcortical electrical activity as well as phrenic nerve volley and blood pressure was recorded in curarized cats under artificial respiration. The p...
متن کاملSpontaneous periodic hypothermia: diencephalic epilepsy.
The case of a patient with episodic hypothermia and profuse sweating believed to be due to diencephalic epilepsy is reported. Despite intensive investigations no other manifestations of hypothalamic dysfunction were found. Conventional antiepileptic drugs were without effect but the patient was successfully treated by total sympathectomy.

The paper argues that language change can be explained through the stoehasticity observed in real-world natural language use. This thesis is demonstrated by modeling language use through language games played in an evolving population of agents. We show that the artificial languages which the agents spontaneously develop based on self-organisation, do not evolve even if the population is changi...

متن کاملDetection of change in periodic, nonstationary data
Traditional change detection strategies are limited in cases where the data are nonstationary and the distributions are unknown. We present here an algorithm for change detection problems in which we do not know the form of the distribution. Our algorithm uses distributed detection with a bank of type-based front end detectors that achieve asymptotically optimal type I error performance. Our si...
